2009 – Drama

Two parents are confronted with the fact that their daughter, Kate, has leukemia. As there are no suitable donors for blood and bone marrow in the family, a doctor advises them to have another child that can serve as a donor for the treatments that Kate will need in the future. The movie tells the tale of both girls. The girls’ mother (Cameron Diaz) is obsessed with keeping her daughter alive and does everything to make sure she has the best possible treatments. Anna has to suffer a lot, being the donor for her older sister. Once she is eleven years old and needs to donate a kidney, she contacts a lawyer (Baldwin), and sews her parents because she does not want to suffer any longer to help keep her sister alive. Good movie, some scenes are a bit long and melodramatic.

Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Carla Bruni

2011 – Comedy, Romance

If you let Woody Allen run wild with the tale of Cinderella, you end up with Midnight in Paris. Gil (Owen Wilson) is on a trip to Paris with his fiancee, Inez (McAdams), and her parents. They meet with some old friends and soon Inez is more interested in her old friend than she is in Gil. Gil is a dreamer who wants the best for Inez, but apparently nothing is good enough for her. On a late night stroll through Paris he discovers that he can travel in time when a taxi appears at a certain spot at midnight. He travels back to Paris in the 1920′s and meets a variety of interesting artists. It’s also here where he meets his new muze, Adriana, who is having a relation with Pablo Picasso. Gil returns to the 20′s every night and learns about his true feelings about Inez and discovers what he wants to do instead of marrying Inez and fulfilling her wishes. Very entertaining movie. The first lady of France, Carla Bruni, has a small part as a museum guide.

Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Philip Seymour Hoffman

2008 – Drama.

Doubt deals with a very current issue, questionable relationships of catholic priests with young children.
Set in New York, 1964, a nun, Sister Beauvier (Streep) discovers that the priest (Hoffman) of her parrish has a doubtful relationship with one of the boys in her school. The priest denies and sister Beauvier does everything she can to prove his guilt and get rid of him.
Excellent performance of the entire cast, ranks high in most reviews and for good reasons.

Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde

2011 – Science Fiction, Western.

A unique blend of two movie genres. It’s a great western and a very good science fiction adventure.
Aliens have parked their spaceship in the Arizona desert. Their goal is to harvest gold from the earth. They are pretty violent creatures and apart from robbing the planet from it’s gold, (for some unclear reason) they also kidnap people. The cowboys, led by gunslinger Jake Lonergan (Craig), go after them trying to free their spouses. A pact between cowboys, indians and outlaws starts a crucade against the viscious and scary aliens.
I really enjoyed Craig and Ford in this movie. At first I had some doubts if Craig could be a convincing western hero, but as far as I’m concerned he passed the test. Prefer him in this role over James Bond any time. Go see for yourself.

Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, Cam Gigandet

2011 – Thriller.

Cage and Kidman have certainly made better movies than Trespass. Certainly the combination with director Joel Schumacher made me have higher expectations of this movie. The story is kinda predictable but nevertheless a must see for thriller fans. Kyle Miller (Cage) deals in diamonds and is married to Sarah (Kidman). They hav a teenage daughter and live in a highly secured house. One night a gang of burglars manages to get inside the house and hold the couple for ransom.
Watch it and make up your own mind.

Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat

2007 – Horror.

In similar style as the Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity is presented as a ‘home movie’. The acting is great and very natural. Katie and Micah are a couple who are haunted by a supernatural presence in their home. In order to find out what it is they have decided to buy a camera and record their daily (and nightly) live. This results in a sequence of scenes that get increasingly frightening. Especially Katie transforms from very happy and open minded to extremely scared.
Despite the fact that there are no really scaring images in the movie, the tension builds slowly to a climax and this movie certainly can be classified in the horror category. Must see for horror and thriller enthusiasts.

Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner

2001 – Thriller.

Kill Bill meets Elvis Presley.
In 3000 miles to Graceland, Costner and Russell are a pair of ex-cons who rob a casino in Las Vegas during Elvis convention week. Soon after the robbery they get into an argument with each other, resulting in a very bloody man/money-hunt.

Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jessica St. Clair

2011 – Comedy.

Seen several movies the last couple of days, but none of them really worth mentioning. Bridesmaids was the first one that was really entertaining. Kristen Wiig (Michelle Bachman from Saturday Night live) is Annie. Her best friend, Lillian, is getting married and wants Annie to be her maid of honor. Annie is single and desparate to find a date for the wedding. One of the bridesmaids, Whitney is also starting to claim Lillian as her best friend and the scenes are set for battle among the bridesmaids.
This movie is basically the female version of the Hangover (2009). Funny and entertaining.

Lego’s Life of George

Lego has also joined the Apple app store with an interactive game called Life of George. This game is played on iPhone or iPod touch together with a mat and a set of bricks that you buy from the Lego store. A nice stockingfiller for the upcoming Sinterklaas and Christmas.
The game can be played in single or 2 player mode. Your iPhone/iPod will give you building challenges at different levels that you need to complete within a certain time. Highly recommended for every Lego fan.

Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts

2011 – Comedy.

After several years, finally another Tom Hanks comedy. As in ‘Charlie Wilsons War’ another one with Julia Roberts. This time Hanks is middle aged man, Larry Crowne, who returns to school after being fired from his job. Roberts is his grumpy and unhappy teacher and her performance is definitely not the best ever. Seen her do a lot better. Certainly not the best comedy, but entertaining.
